Some of the busy servers list what their new content is and what things they are working on.
We do list what we are working on in general. Read the posts, the first things were bug fixes, which are almost done. However, we will not (and neither do the other servers) release specifics about content. In fact one of the new things released was figured out in less than 3 hours (in the last release) by the players, and those that figured it out had fun doing so and informing others. If we just told everybody, they would only have accessed it just 3 hours earlier. The other servers don't give specifics, but what ever they do, is not what we do. There are many players here that want to find out things on their own. There is nothing like being the person to find some hidden quest and letting it out as you see fit. But after time I'm sure they have walkthroughs posted. Just like we have on the T4C Bible (past content.)
One thing that I think we do need to do, and I believe will do, is post what direction the content is going, ie new island, new types of quests, new types of items coming, etc. So like you recommend, but general, not too specific. But on the otherhand, nothing stays secret for more than a little while on any server. The players talk, share and team up to find the stuff as quickly as possible (then post it.) Remember, the "it's for you to find out" statement only applies for a short time to those that want to do it and discover. After that the cat is out of the bag, and it's no longer a secret anyway.
I think the most important thing is to keep the content coming on a regular basis. If people know the begining of the month means new things to discover and find, they will log on to interact with eachother to do so.
As far as item requirments, there are players out there that want to catalogue them, study them and find them, this is an important aspect of the game for them. They do it quickly and the information is propogated. I think they enjoy that aspect. |

This is just a thought I had on the "secrets" that this server guards the new content.
I would think that it would be much better for the server to attact new players here by being more open. For instance you can go onto the Bible and look at other servers web pages. Some of the busy servers list what their new content is and what things they are working on.
From reading the discussion board this weekend I've read posts from the sysop and a member of the development team both talk about not telling anyone things and letting them find out on their own. Now I understand that you don't want to ruin the supprise for everyone, but that seems like a flawed strategy to me.
It would be like trying to sell someone a vacation, but not telling them where they're going. Or getting on an airplane that you don't know where it's heading.
I'm not suggesting you tell people exactly where new mobs, areas, or quests are. You should be high-lighting the new content that you come out with, not trying to hide it.
Let's say you announced that: Troll Skin Gauntlets as well as their reqs and bonuses in a release when you first came out with them. It gives current as well as new players a chance to see what the server has to offer. That statement doesn't tell you where to get them, what drops them, or the drop rate. Yes you've given out some info on the new content, but did you ruin the fun of looking for it? I say no.
I think it's better to show potential customers what they would be getting rather than giving them the " It's for you to find out" statement. You still get the fun of finding it after all. It's just that much more fun knowing what you're looking for.
